Admin Permissions

What Admin access lets someone do, for every type of content in Giraffe.

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Admin is the highest permission level in Giraffe. It is the only level that can share content with others, change what other people can do with it, or delete it. Whoever creates a project, space, layer, or other piece of content is its Admin by default.

Projects

A project Admin can create and edit content in the project, edit its workspace property values, invite others to see it, change anyone else's permission on it, and delete it. The project's creator is its Admin by default. See Project Permissions.

Spaces

A Space Admin can create and edit content in the Space, edit its name and units, invite others to see it, change anyone else's permission on it, and delete it. The Space's creator is its Admin by default. Admin rights on a Space do not carry over to the projects inside it: a Space Admin does not automatically have Admin rights on those projects. See Space Permissions.

Layers

A layer's Admin, its creator by default, controls whether the layer is shared into other people's Layer Libraries and whether it is marked sensitive. See Share Layers.

Templates

A template is a project nominated for reuse, so template Admin works the same way project Admin does: full control over the template's content, plus the ability to share it and change who else has access. See Create a Template.

Layouts

A layout template's Admin, whoever saved it, can share it with a specific person by email, a Team, or the whole workspace, each added and removed independently. See Share layouts.

Project Attachments

Files attached to a project, like reports, surveys, or 3D models, follow that project's permission level rather than having their own sharing dialog. A project's Admin can permanently delete an attachment from the File manager, not just remove it from the project, and on Enterprise accounts can turn on Guest visibility for an individual attachment. See Project Attachments and Delete Files.

Files

A file in your File Library is a different thing from a project attachment: it shares the same underlying structure as a content pack, and only its Admin can share it, with an individual, a Team, or your workspace. Manage it from Home > Manage Account > Files rather than the content pack listing. See Delete Files.

Content Packs

Only a content pack's Admin can share it, with an individual, a Team, or your workspace. The pack's creator is its Admin by default. See Share a Content Pack.

Apps

An app's Admin can edit its configuration, share it with other workspace members, and delete it from the workspace. The app's creator is its Admin by default. See Share an App.

Credentials

Credentials do not use the graded Admin, Edit, View, and Guest system the way other content does. A credential is shared with a Team or your workspace as a whole, and separately with the apps that need it, rather than assigned an individual permission level. See Share a Credential.

Your whole workspace

Workspace Admin is a broader role, set when a member is invited. A workspace Admin manages members, Teams, workspace settings, and workspace property definitions, and can share any content with the entire workspace. Using audit mode, a workspace Admin can also see, edit, share, or delete any project or space in the workspace, whether or not it has been shared with them. See Member Permissions and Governance in Giraffe.
