Layers often have complex data structures that are displayed graphically using a color scale. Adding a legend to your report brings clarity.
Click the Legends tool
Choose a layer from your project:
A report legend needs a layer that has a legend. If a layer has no legend, there are no keys to add to the report. To give a data layer a legend, style it by a property in the Data Table.
The available keys will be loaded:
Select the keys to display
Choose how many columns to organise the selection with
Click "add to document" when ready.

The Legend is added as a Graphic. Use the Graphics appearance settings to adjust.
The layer list is empty or a layer is missing
When a layer is missing from Choose a layer, or no keys load, check whether the layer has a legend.
In the Layer Palette, click the 3-dot menu next to the layer.
Choose Show legend.
If the popup shows "No legend available.", Giraffe has no legend to read for that layer.
A legend comes from the layer source or style: a WMS legend image, an Esri MapServer legend, a style set in the Data Table, or the colors in the layer's Mapbox style.
