When a geometry is selected, its bounding box is displayed.

Bounding boxes also have control points.

Unlike editing control points on the geometry, the bounding box is always a set rectangular ratio that encompasses the entire geometry.

Scale

To scale a geometry without changing its relative shape & corner angles, use the corner control points on the bounding box.

Click and drag a bounding box corner to scale.

Stretch

To stretch a geometry in one direction without keeping the relative shape or corner angles intact, use the midpoints on the bounding box.

Click and drag a bounding box midpoint to stretch.
