Export Images (.jpg, .pdf)

Export a high-res image of your project to use in reports or presentations outside Giraffe.

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Giraffe can export screenshots of your map canvas in png or PDF format.

PNG is a lossless image format, excellent for high-quality web graphics, digital photography, and images needing transparency, while PDF is a document format that can contain multiple images and text, ideal for printing, sharing consistent layouts, and secure professional documents.

Access the export menu via the main menu → Export

Click main menu → ExportImage/PDF

The image export menu appears.

You can choose between 2D (top view) and 3D (perspective view)

  • Use 2D for images printed to scale (either png or PDF)

  • Use 3D for a high resolution screenshot of your current map view (png only)

3D

Use 3D for a high resolution image of your current map view. 3D views are not to scale.

  • Toggle 3D

  • Click “High-Res Screenshot”

  • The page loads

  • A .png file will download to your computer

2D

Use 2D for a top-view image that can be printed to scale. You can set the page size and scale. The image is projected using the Web Mercator projection.

  • Toggle 2D

  • Select Settings for page size, scale, and resolution.

    • Some computers with lower-end graphics may struggle to export large images. If the selected resolution is quite large, a warning will appear.

  • Move the map view to be within the page size shown

  • Click “image to Scale” to download a .png

  • Click “PDF to scale” to download a .pdf

Note: The Image/PDF export only generates a screenshot of your current map canvas and Giraffe geometries. Analytics, Urban, and other functions are not included. To create a comprehensive pdf report with graphics, analytics, text, and images, try the Report Builder.
