Simplify, Open and Close

These tools help you clean up overly complex shapes and switch between polygon and line types — keeping your map data accurate and performant.

Useful when imported or hand-drawn geometry has more points than necessary, slowing down performance. Simplify reduces point count to a specified tolerance while preserving the overall shape.

Select geometry

Select simplify from More Tools/Command Line.

Type in a tolerance (in meters)

Useful when you need to convert between polygon and line geometry — open a polygon to work with it as a polyline, or close a polyline to form a clean polygon.

Open a polygon and turn it into a polyline.

Select Open from More Tools/Command Line.

Turn a self-intersecting polyline into a polygon
