The Layer Palette

View and Control the layers in your project

The layer palette combines spatial Layers and Drawing Layers into the same panel. From the Layer Palette, you can adjust layer visibility, opacity, and grouping. You also have quick access to search the Layer Library, add a new spatial layer, or manage your layers’ governance and metadata.

The layer palette is the default toolset in the left-hand panel.

Open it by clicking the icon that looks like a stack of shapes.

Quick Actions

The action buttons in the Layer Palette are New Drawing Layer and New Data layer.

  • New data Layer opens the Layer Library where you can search for existing data or add your own.

  • New Drawing layer adds a new layer for you to draw on.

Search the entire current project's layer list using the magnifying glass.

Save button saves the current layer state as the project default. The last saved layer state is how your project will open next time you access it.

Layer Tree

The Layer Tree is the list of layers in your project.

The layer tree is where you can organize layers, change layer visibility and opacity, manage and share layers, and more.

Some edits to the layer tree are not automatically saved:

  • Changing Opacity

  • Changing Visibility

This allows for co-authoring. Users my turn layers on and off in a working state.

To save layer visibility and groups, click the save icon to make the current that the project default.
