Troubleshoot Your Workspace and Account

Fixes for workspace, team, credential, and account changes that won't save.

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Your workspace holds your team, your project properties, and your data credentials. When a workspace or account change won't save, find the message you see below for the cause and the fix.

Problems signing in

I can't sign in

Giraffe signs you in with a password, or with Google, Microsoft, or Apple. Use the same method you used before.

  • If Giraffe says "This account cannot sign in with a password," your account uses Google, Microsoft, Apple, or your company's single sign-on. Click the matching Continue with button.

  • If your company uses single sign-on, Giraffe sends you straight to your company's sign-in page.

  • If Giraffe says "This account has no sign in method left," use a provider button, or contact support to restore email and password sign-in.

I forgot my password

  1. On the sign-in screen, click Reset Password.

  2. Enter your email and click Reset Password. The button changes to Link Sent!

  3. Open the email from Giraffe and follow the link.

  4. Enter a new password and click Reset Password.

Giraffe asks me to verify my email

Giraffe emails you a verification code when you create an account. Type the code into the Code field on the Verify Your Email screen and click Verify account.

If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, then click Resend. Giraffe shows "Verification email sent."

My sign-in methods are mixed up

If you can't sign in with the method you expect, reset your sign-in methods. Open the main menu and choose Remove SSO providers and logout. Giraffe removes your saved sign-in methods and signs you out. Your projects, workspaces, and permissions stay the same.

Sign in again with any method that uses your email address. Giraffe reconnects your account. If it fails, Giraffe shows "Could not reset your sign in." Try again, or contact support.

I'm in the wrong workspace, or I can't see a project

Each project belongs to one workspace. Open the main menu and choose Switch Workspace to move to the right one.

If Giraffe says "Log in to see this workspace and project," the account you're signed in with isn't a member. Sign in with the account that was invited, or ask a workspace admin to invite you.

Problems with your plan and billing

Start or change a subscription

New workspaces start on a free 14-day trial of Giraffe Core. To start or change a paid plan, a workspace admin opens workspace admin and clicks Start Subscription or Manage Subscription. Read the Before you update your subscription message, then click Continue to Portal.

🚨 Warning: downgrading to Core removes every member except the billing admin, and reverts all admin roles. Reducing your seat count removes the most recently added members.

Giraffe shows a Workspace Error screen

The Workspace Error screen appears when your workspace has more members than its plan allows, or its plan changed. Common causes:

  • The plan was recently downgraded.

  • The seat count was reduced.

  • The workspace has no valid admin.

If you're a workspace admin, the screen shows how many creator seats are in use. Click Demote or Remove next to members until the count fits your plan. If you're not an admin, contact the billing admin named on the screen.

To keep working in a different workspace, pick it under Switch to another workspace and click Switch. To use a different account, click Sign in with a different account.

I can't invite more people

A Team plan holds up to 10 members. When you reach the limit, Giraffe shows "Team seat limit reached." Click Contact Us to talk to sales about upgrading.

If Giraffe shows "Seat limit reached," click Update to add seats in the billing portal. On an Enterprise plan, a message that your license is insufficient means you need more Creator or Viewer seats. Ask your account team to update the license.

Check seat use on the Seats card on the members page in workspace admin. It shows Creator seats and Viewer seats.

A feature says "Upgrade to access"

A grayed-out feature with an "Upgrade to access" tooltip isn't included in your workspace's plan. Content Library items show "Upgrade to access this content." Ask your workspace admin about upgrading.

My trial ended and I can't save

A new workspace gets a free 14-day trial with every feature. When the trial ends, you can open your projects and can't save changes until a workspace admin starts a subscription with Start Subscription. If the subscription buttons are grayed out, or you already paid, contact support with the email you sign in with.

I subscribed and a feature is still locked

Each plan includes different features. Core is for one person. Team and Enterprise add members and more apps. If a feature is still locked after you upgrade, refresh the page. If it stays locked, the feature may need a higher plan. Ask your account team.

Cancel a subscription

A workspace admin can cancel from Manage Subscription. Cancel in the billing portal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. To ask about a refund, or to switch between monthly and yearly, contact support.

Canceling a subscription doesn't delete your account. To delete your account and its data, contact support.

Get an invoice

If you pay by card, open Manage Subscription to see and download invoices in the billing portal. If your company pays by invoice, Giraffe emails each invoice to your billing contact. Contact support to change the billing contact.

Change the email I sign in with

Contact support to change your sign-in email. Send your current email and the new one. Support moves your account, so you keep your projects. Each person needs their own account. Shared logins aren't allowed.

I'm an admin and can't see my team's projects

Projects aren't shared with the whole workspace by default, so even admins only see projects shared with them. To see every project in the workspace, turn on Audit on the My Projects screen. Giraffe shows "Loading all projects from the workspace might take a while."

Get projects from someone who left

Their projects stay in your workspace. A workspace admin can find them with Audit on the My Projects screen and share them with you. If the projects are in a personal account, contact support.

A removed member still shows on a team

Removing someone from the workspace doesn't remove them from teams. Open the team and remove them there too.

I'm a student and Giraffe asks me to pick a plan

Students can apply for a student subscription. Apply for a student subscription. If your school already has a Giraffe workspace, ask your instructor to invite you instead, then sign in from the invite.

Problems managing your workspace

An invite won't send

Fill in both the email and Access level. The Invite button stays off until both are set. If the invite still fails, Giraffe shows the reason in a red message at the bottom of the screen.

Someone didn't get their invite email

Invite emails come from giraffe.build. A company email filter may block them or send them to spam.

  • Ask the person to check their spam or junk folder.

  • Ask their IT team to allow emails from giraffe.build.

Once the emails are allowed, send the invite again.

A workspace property name won't save

  • "Name already exists" means another workspace property uses that name. Pick a different name.

  • "Cannot use the name of a system property" means Giraffe already uses that name. Pick a different name.

  • "Cannot change property name" means that property's name is locked.

Error messages

Giraffe shows these errors in toasts at the bottom of the screen when something in your workspace fails.
