File Manager

Find, edit, share, and delete the images and 3D models you reuse across projects.

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Keep your logos, map markers, site photos, and reusable 3D models like trees and street furniture in one library. Every site study, massing, and planning report can then pull from the same approved assets.

The File Manager is the Files page on Home. It lists every file you can access, and it is where you upload, find, edit, share, and delete files.

Open the File Manager

  1. Go to Home. From inside a project, click the Giraffe logo at the top left and choose Home, or click Home in the breadcrumbs.

  2. Click Files in the Home sidebar. The File Manager opens with the heading My Files.

What the File Manager shows

The File Manager lists every file you can access. That includes files you uploaded, files someone shared with you directly or through a Team or workspace, and public files Giraffe publishes to the Marketplace.

Files stored here are separate from project attachments. A file can be reused in any project. A project attachment belongs to one project. See Project Attachments.

Find a file

Type in the Search files box at the top of the File Manager. The search matches file names.

Switch between Gallery and Columns view

The File Manager opens in Gallery view, which shows a preview of each image and 3D model. Click Switch to Columns to see a list with Name and Date uploaded columns. Click Switch to Gallery to go back.

Upload a file to the File Manager

Click New File at the top of the File Manager, choose an image or 3D model, pick a size for images, name the file, and click Save.

For the full upload steps, image sizes, and supported file types, see Upload Files.

Download a file

Click the Download icon on a file in the File Manager. The file opens in a new browser tab, where you can save it.

Edit a file

Click the pencil icon on a file in the File Manager to open the Edit file window. Each row has its own edit button:

  • Name: rename the file.

  • Description: add or change a short description.

  • Thumbnail: upload a new preview image.

  • File Content: replace the file with a new image or 3D model. See Edit File Metadata for how this affects projects that use the file.

  • Tags: click Add tag to add a tag, or click the X on a tag to remove it.

Changing a file needs Admin access to that file. The person who uploaded a file has Admin access. Admins of the workspace that owns the file also have Admin access.

Files from a content pack cannot have their content replaced in the File Manager. Republish the content pack to update them.

The Public URL setting is chosen when a file is uploaded and cannot be changed afterward. Replacing a file's content keeps its current setting.

Share a file

Open a file with the pencil icon in the File Manager and scroll to File sharing. Share with a person by email, with a Team, or with a whole workspace. Only people with Admin access to the file see the sharing options.

For each sharing option and access level, see Share Files.

Delete a file

  1. Click the pencil icon on the file in the File Manager.

  2. Click Delete File.

  3. Click Delete in the Delete item? window to confirm.

🚨 Warning: Deleting a file removes it from every project, content pack, and report that uses it. Images and 3D models that point to the file stop loading.

Removing a file from a project, or deleting the geometry that uses it, leaves the file in the File Manager. Delete it from the File Manager to remove it completely.
