Most GIS work on a site is small: a join, a filter, a new field, a field to delete. gGIS handles those jobs inside Giraffe, so you can pull zoning, land use, or parcel data into your project without exporting to QGIS, Esri, or Excel. Large-scale work, like routing or big data analysis, still belongs in a dedicated GIS tool.
gGIS works with GeoJSON. It reads and writes the layers in your project directly.
This app is available to anyone with a Giraffe account.

Choose what to work with
When gGIS opens, it asks What do you want to work with? Pick one option.
A static GeoJSON layer: open a layer as a table, filter it, add calculated columns, and run spatial tools on it. A static layer is a layer you look at. You can't move or reshape its shapes.
Giraffe sections: copy fields onto your drawn geometries, such as buildings, from a GeoJSON layer. Giraffe updates straight away, and the geometries stay editable.
Click ← Back to return to this choice.
The prime layer
The layer you open in gGIS is the prime layer. Every view and tool works on the prime layer. The header shows You're working on followed by the layer's name.
Click Start again to switch to a different prime layer. If you have changes you haven't exported, gGIS asks you to Export, then switch or Discard and switch.
gGIS tabs
gGIS groups its tabs in three sets.
Data: Table, Kanban, and Detail views of the prime layer.
Enrich: Join, Sections, Buffer, Dissolve, Clip, Difference, and Points.
Create: Apply, which turns layer shapes into Giraffe geometries with usages.
gGIS remembers the last tab you used.
Quick start
Choose A static GeoJSON layer and open a layer. Learn how in Open a Layer in gGIS.
Explore it in the Table. Filter it, sort it, and add columns.
Bring in data from another layer with Join, or reshape it with a tool like Buffer or Clip.
Export the result to a layer. Learn how in Save and Export in gGIS.
Click Help in the gGIS header for in-app guides on views, columns, formulas, filtering, and exporting. The Help panel also has Load sample table data, which opens ten sample parcels to practice on. The sample isn't added to your project unless you export it.
