Text in Paper

Add freeform text and notes to a sheet

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Add a quick sheet note, a revision callout, or a label directly on a drawing without leaving Paper. Text is one of the native drawing tools available on every sheet.

Add text

  1. Click the text tool in the toolbar, or press T.

  2. Click on the sheet to place a text box that grows as you type, or click and drag to set a fixed width first.

  3. Type your text. It's already in edit mode.

Double-click any existing text shape to edit it again.

Style text

Select a text shape and open the style panel to change how it looks. The style panel is hidden by default: click the colour-wheel icon in the top bar to show it.

  • Font: Draw, Sans, Serif, or Mono. There's no separate bold or italic control, so the font you pick is the typeface for that text.

  • Size: S, M, L, or XL.

  • Align: left, center, or right.

  • Color: a set of preset swatches.

This font choice only affects freeform text shapes you place yourself. Paper's own built-in elements, like title blocks, tables, and level markers, use a separate project-wide report font set in Settings → Typography.
