Analytics turns your design into the numbers a feasibility study runs on, like GFA, unit counts, and yield. When a report won't load or edit, find the message you see below for the cause and the fix.
Learn how Analytics works in the Analytics overview.
Problems with what Analytics counts
Analytics counts geometries I hid
Hiding a layer on the map doesn't remove it from Analytics. Analytics counts geometries on hidden layers, layers at 0% opacity, and hidden groups. Exclude a layer inside Analytics instead:
In Analytics, open settings with the cog.
Under Hide Layers, tick each layer you don't want counted.
Exclude geometries from a measure
Pick the way that matches what you want to leave out:
A whole layer: use Hide Layers in Analytics settings.
One group in the table: use Hide Groups in Analytics settings.
Some geometries in one measure: edit the measure and turn on Apply to features with specific filter(s). The measure only counts geometries that match a filter, such as a usage.
Analytics has no exclude switch on a single geometry. To leave out an existing building, give it a usage your measures don't include, or filter it out of the measure.
Analytics and Urban show different totals
Analytics and Urban count different geometries. Urban skips geometries on hidden layers, layers at 0% opacity, and hidden groups. Analytics counts them unless you exclude the layer in Analytics settings. To make the totals match, exclude the same layers in Analytics that you hide on the map.
Analytics counts every scenario
Analytics counts geometries in every scenario, whether or not the scenario is turned on. Each geometry counts once, under the scenario it belongs to.
To compare design options side by side, group the table by Scenario.
To leave a scenario out, group by Scenario, then add it to Hide Groups in Analytics settings.
Analytics says "Too many groups"
A table shows up to 30 groups. Past 30, Analytics shows "Only the first 30 groups are shown!" and leaves the rest out.
Group by something with fewer values, like usage or layer group instead of building.
Use Hide Groups in Analytics settings to drop groups you don't need.
You can group by one property at a time. Numeric properties, like height, aren't available to group by.
A total looks too high
Overlapping geometries each count. If two geometries cover the same area, Analytics adds both. Delete or trim the duplicate.
Each level of a building is counted. Check the number of levels on the geometry.
Geometries outside your project boundary still count in measures. Only site area uses the boundary.
My measure formula doesn't work
Use capital letters in measure formulas. Each component in a measure has a capital letter, like A or B. Formulas are case-sensitive, so a doesn't match component A.
Works:
(A + B) * 0.1Doesn't work:
(a + b) * 0.1
Check that every letter in the formula matches a component in the measure.
A measure shows "bad formula" or "missing value"
Analytics shows an error in a cell when it can't calculate a measure.
"bad formula" means the formula has a mistake. Edit the measure and check each part.
"missing value" means a property the formula needs isn't set on some geometries. Set the property, or filter those geometries out.
"invalid qty formula" or "invalid rate formula" means one part of a quantity times rate measure is wrong. Check both parts.
Numbers have the wrong number of decimals
Each measure rounds to its own Precision, from 0 to 10 decimal places. Edit the measure and change Precision.
Units didn't change after I changed project units
A measure's unit is a label. Changing the project's units doesn't convert measures you already have. Edit each measure to use the feet or meters version of the property, and update its Unit.
Loading a template didn't remove my old measures
Loading a template or importing Analytics adds to what you have. A measure with the same ID is replaced. Every other measure, category, tab, and unit stays. If Giraffe asks Overwrite display?, choose whether to keep your current display settings.
To start fresh, delete the measures you don't want before you load the template.
My dwelling count looks wrong
Dwellings can come from two places: the dwelling mix on a usage, or the Dwelling Counts set on a geometry. A custom Analytics template may also count dwellings its own way. Check which one your dwelling measure uses.
I can't edit Analytics
If Giraffe shows "You do not have permission to edit project Analytics," you have view-only access to the project. Ask the project owner for edit access.
Error messages
Giraffe shows these errors in toasts at the bottom of the screen when something with Analytics fails.
Error | What triggers it | What to do |
"Error fetching Analytics template." | You picked an Analytics template and Giraffe could not load it. | Try again or reload the page. |
Other Analytic messages
These toasts confirm that something worked, or ask you to fix a small thing before you continue.
Message | What triggers it | What to do |
"Analytics template fetched." | You picked an Analytics template and it loaded. | None |
"Loading solar analysis, may take a while for large projects." | You opened the Solar app or changed its settings and the analysis started running. | Wait for the analysis to finish. |
"You do not have permission to edit project Analytics." | You tried to drag an Analytics table column to reorder it. You can only view this project. | Ask a project editor for edit access. |
