Analytics in Paper

Add a live analytics table or chart from your project's Analytics categories

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Put the numbers your model already calculates, GFA by usage, unit mix, parking counts, next to the plans that produce them. Add a live analytics table or chart to a Paper sheet instead of screenshotting a report from somewhere else.

Analytics in Paper pulls from your project's Analytics categories. You can also add a simple built-in GFA-by-usage table instead, or build a table or chart by asking a question in plain language.

Add an analytics table

Add a pivot-style table built from one of your project's Analytics categories.

  1. Click Analytics in the Insert bar at the bottom of Paper.

  2. Pick a category from the menu. Paper adds a table with one row per measure in that category, and one column per split value plus an Aggregate Total column.

Add an analytics chart

Add a pie or bar chart built from an Analytics category.

  1. Click Analytics Chart in the Insert bar.

  2. Pick a category. Paper adds the chart to the sheet.

  3. Select the chart to choose the category, measure, and chart type (pie or bar).

Split, group, and stack

Break a table or chart down by a dimension other than the project's main Analytics grouping.

  • Split By (table): group the table's columns by Layer, Layer group, Scenario, Usage, or Building.

  • Group by / Split by / Stack by (chart): choose which dimension makes separate chart panels, which makes separate slices or bars within a panel, and, for bar charts only, which stacks segments within a bar.

Refreshing a table or chart, or changing its Split By, can assign a grouping on your project's shared Analytics settings if one isn't set yet. That change applies to the project's Analytics tab too, not just this sheet.

Live and frozen tables and charts

An analytics table or chart is ❄ frozen by default when you add it, keeping the values it had at insert time. Switch it to live so it updates as you edit the model, or press its ↻ button to refresh a frozen one on demand.

Analytics appearance

Select a table or chart and open its appearance dropdown to fine-tune how it reads on the sheet.

  • Show or hide the category title and the "grouped by" subtitle, align the title, or override the title text.

  • Hide lines on a table.

  • Show, hide, and reorder individual columns, and adjust their relative widths.
